Freedom of the Borough Capsule

The Freedom scroll contained in this capsule symbolises the RAPTC’s relationship with Aldershot that dates from 1861. The Freedom was conferred to mark the Corp’s centenary in 1960 and was reconfirmed in 2011 following the granting of the Royal title.

Joseph Tarbotton Medals

SMI Tarbotton was one of the “12 Apostles” who attended the first Army instructor course in 1860 and became the first AGS Regimental Sergeant Major. His Oxford Gymnasium medal is one of 13 struck for each of the Apostles and Director of Gymnasia Major Hammersley.

2012 Olympic Relay Torch Cauldron

The RAPTC has an association with the Olympics that goes back to 1920 and members of the Corps assisted in the running of the 2012 London Games. During the relay which proceeded the Olympics a torch was lit each day from this cauldron to be carried around the country.

Colonel Betts Uniform

Dress uniform and medals of Lt Col (MAA) James Betts. In 1907 Betts became the first man to be commissioned from the ranks in the AGS and was given the special title of Master at Arms, a title given to every subsequent RAPTC Officer.

Prosthetic Limb

The development of sophisticated prosthetic limbs was accelerated in as a result of soldiers suffering serious injuries from the c.21st Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. This femoral prosthesis was decorated with poppies for a display commemorating Remembrance Day 2016 at DMRC Headley Court.

Bayonet Fencing Mask

Bayonet fencing was one of the key skills taught by the AGS in the first half of the c.20th. The leather and metal mask offered protection whilst two protagonists were sparring.
